Empower your life with Feng Shui

Article on feng shui written by Patricia Chang in magazine             “Montreal en Sante”. Note- she did not chose the graphics which she finds not quite balanced…

This was an article “Feeling Feng Shui; Harmony in the Home & in Life” that I wrote for a magazine Montréal en Santé which is distributed to physicians, hospitals and at public places within the Montreal area.

(I had wanted to call it “Empower Your Life with Feng Shui” which to me expresses the purpose of learning about feng shui  but was overruled by the editor.

It’s difficult for most people to believe that something as simple as rearranging furniture, adding plants or changing artwork can positively affect one’s life. The best way to appreciate feng shui is to experience it firsthand. Start by understanding the essence of feng shui, which is how your home & work environments affect all aspects of your life.

In 1997, I was consciously trying to live a balanced life. It seems the more I tried, the tougher life got. I tried to eat better and exercise more , only to break out in hives covering my whole body. I tried to get away for break, only to have my brand new car totaled. Without the proper insurance, I was in debt for the first time.

On a whim I hired a feng shui consultant. I was amazed that so much could be revealed about myself just by looking at my home: My unconscious was actually running the show! Although I was a McGill University trained architect, I was never taught that the plan of a house affects one’s life.

After some changes in artwork, sheets & an addition of a water fountain, my luck changed – as if the universe was now on my side. Not only did my finances, love life & health improve, I had a renewed passion for life – something I had not felt since university! My consciousness had expanded, like light bulbs constantly going off in my head. It was a turning point in my life and since then, I’ve seen many people benefit from feng shui in all aspects of health, wealth and relationships.

Even you might benefit from feng shui.

* Educate yourself. Find something that resonates. Start your research here:
-www.fengshui-esthetics.com offers workshops & consultations in Montreal
-www.karenrauschcarter.com- easy to understand site . I found her books easy to follow and informative.

* De-clutter! Every little bit makes a difference, even if it’s one corner of a room.

* Put yourself in command position. At your desk, bed, or stove, you should have a wide view of the room and be able to see anyone coming through the door. A solid wall should be at your back . If you cannot move the desk/bed/stove, a mirror can help.

*A missing corner of your home/ property can negatively impact your life. It’s easily rectified by “squaring” up the plan which can be done by using crystals, plants, mirrors or fountains. Feng shui applies to front and back yards.

* Know that even areas not regularly accessible like attics, garages, areas below decks & lockers (condos) affect on you.

*Read how geopathic and electromagnetic stress may contribute to illness. www.geopathology.com

*Learn how to balance the elements in each room –wood, metal, fire, water, earth- as represented by materials, colours or forms, helping to put balance in your life.

* Connect with nature. Have plants inside or on your balcony. Let your feet touch the ground – it’s healing!

*Examine the artwork around you – what does it say about you?

* Honour your own intuition. Make changes only if it feels right to you & make them gradually.

* Enjoy the process and note the benefits!
