Note to readers.
This was from a webpage from my old real estate website .My new real estate website will not be featuring feng shui so I thought this page would fit perfectly here, as the feng shui information is still relevant. I have written other material about feng shui for a magazine and for a conference which will be posted as separate entries.
The following are Feng Shui stories recounted by Patricia Chang, Chartered Real Estate Agent in Westmount, Quebec.
The power of Feng Shui can be a powerful tool for transformation.
I know because I have experienced it, having had my Feng Shui “done”. My intent here is to discuss how it became an integral part of my life and how I have discovered that when combining Feng Shui and architectural planning principles with the integration of my higher consciousness studies, I can make a positive difference when working with clients and friends.
Some might assume that I am a natural believer of Feng Shui because of my Chinese ancestry. However I was raised pretty much as a “Westerner” and my parents, both in the medical field – like many trained in the sciences – assumed Feng Shui to be superstition. My education was largely scientific as well, but fortunately, I have a curious mind.
The power of Feng Shui was first revealed to me when I saw how the placement of one’s desk was related to one’s success in selling real estate. In 1996, shortly after our offices at Royal Lepage moved to their new location at Westmount Square, an agent expressed her dismay that none of her deals were working. I did not know much about feng shui then. However, because of my architectural background and common sense, I indicated that her difficulties were probably due to the fact that when seated at her desk, she had her back to the door. We turned her desk around so that she was in “command position” (i.e. now viewing the door) and within that week the three deals that she had been working on were successful. After that, many agents at the Royal Lepage Westmount branch changed their desks to command position and this may have contributed to this office’s continued success in the Westmount real estate market.
In 1997 I happened to meet a feng shui consultant whom I then hired to do to my feng shui. At the time I was relatively content with my life so it was mainly out of curiosity. I was pleasantly surprised when positive change manifested for me almost immediately following my Feng Shui consultation – a new male friend, an increase in sales, improved health and a cessation of accidents. What was most important was that a year later (1998), I realized I had experienced a change in consciousness – a renewal in my passion for life and the beginning of my understanding of my life purpose. Previous to this, the idea of “having a life purpose” was not even part of my consciousness!
Over the course of a year (1997-98) I hired the consultant to Feng Shui many properties in Westmount and Montreal that I had for sale because I wanted to give them an edge in a slow market. My clients, of diverse nationalities, religions and professions, did not even know of feng shui but after the consultations, many saw improvement in their lives – sleeping/job/business partner/health difficulties started to disappear, new opportunities arose, relationships strengthened and finances improved and of course the majority of their houses sold.
Needless to say I was smitten with the power of Feng Shui.
I started working with basic Feng Shui principles on my own, when preparing/staging Westmount homes for sale (the terms staging or Feng Shui weren’t part of the mainstream consciousness as it is today) when my consultant became busy with other endeavors. Much to my delight, small changes had big effects and houses were often sold after that. This helped to confirm my belief in the power of Feng Shui, because some of these houses had been previously listed with other agents with little or no action.
Other Feng Shui stories include:
I managed a colleague’s listings while he was out of town for two weeks on the provision that I could do a quick Feng Shui on them. Two out of threeWestmount homes were sold/rented while he was gone and the third was sold the following week.
Another time, a former client told me that he was having money issues such as not getting paid and being audited by the government. I told him to check his garage area since it was in the prosperity area of the property. Later he informed me that on the day that they started excavating to rebuild the crumbling foundations of the garage, out of the blue he received a large cheque from a major client who had refused to pay him earlier.
One client’s daughter told me that she felt that the moving of her desk incommand position helped her to obtain an “A” in a calculus exam the following day.
One couple – both professionals – were moving to another city. They were both nervous since only one of them had a job. I told them what to do – such as getting out the diplomas and hanging them in the “fame” area of their home – and shortly thereafter, both had their dream jobs in addition to selling their Westmount house with three offers on the table.
I assisted an agent to verify the Feng Shui at one of her client’s Westmount homes that had been on sale for many months. After the owner made a few changes based on our suggestions, there was an offer on the house a few days later.
I made a few suggestions to a client’s home including the changing of her bed position to command position. The client later told me that not only did these small changes enrich her life, her sleep had improved greatly (and I did not even know the client had sleep issues!).
I made a couple aware of objects/artwork in their environment and also lack of command position in different areas. Even though the couple was content overall, the dynamics between the couple changed for the better (the male reclaimed more of his “male” side, the female reclaimed more of her “female” side) and “things” are moving. Their home sold soon after.
These cases just touch the surface of the power of Feng Shui since I was mandated to sell the house and not mandated to do a full Feng Shui consultation. Thus they did not enjoy the benefits of a full Feng Shui consultation which would probably yield more powerful results. Nevertheless, whenever the Feng Shui touch is used and something positive happens besides the selling of a house, it always puts a smile in my heart.
You might be wondering, why is it that small decorative changes and changes in positioning of furniture can make a major difference in our lives?
These are the questions I had that prompted me to study the nature of energy, consciousness and the big questions of the universe. Ultimately it led me to write about seeing the big picture. I hope that this will encourage you to do the same, or at least help to empower your own life, whether or not you are selling your house!
From my perspective, just try to learn the underlying principles of Feng Shui. It is not necessary to get caught up in compass directions for example, but more about being aware of your environment and to see how it affects you. In my experience being in command position is extremely important. You can find reference to this in many books . Also be mindful of the type of artwork you put up and especially of clutter, even if clutter is hidden in the garage, basement or under the back porch.
Most of all, enjoy the process and note what changes occur.
The more you are recognize and grateful for the positive changes, the more you will benefit and will seem to have more luck.
Have fun and would love to hear your experience with feng shui!
